The plot of Twisted Love is not that strong. It has many plot holes. The story revolves around the trope of ‘Brother’s Best Friend’ where Alex takes care of Ava at the request of his best friend, Ava’s brother by moving beside her apartment as a neighbour. Because for some reason a grown-ass woman like Ava is not capable of taking care of herself. This put me off from the beginning. I don’t like this belittling in romance books.
Then there is the family drama between Ava & her father. That mystery is a bit far-fetched for my liking. It is too unbelievable. Also, Alex’s hidden motive doesn’t make sense. Why would he wait years to finally achieve his goals? Why didn’t he set his plan in motion years ago? No one knows!
Ava as a character is a weak one. She fights with her brother and Alex when they interfere too much in her life. But eventually, she just gives in and goes with the flow. I didn’t like that about her character. She is always a passive character in her own story.
Alex’s character is joked about being a psychotic serial killer. But he really comes off as one. A dark & broody male character is fine. But Alex is not that. He does seem psychotic. But it was not taken seriously and was joked about which reduced the intensity. Because of this reason, I couldn’t like Alex. As we all know that the male character in a romance book can make or break it completely.
I can’t say I enjoyed Twisted Love much. I use to like this trope but have grown out of it years ago. Since this is the first book in the Twisted series it is bound to have some flaws. I am going to continue the series as each book follows a different couple. Overall, I am not a fan of this book. The romance doesn’t blow my mind like King of Wrath.
