I had a great time with Twisted Games, the second book in the inter-connected standalone romance series. Rhys and Bridget's slow-burn romance is immersive with the bodyguard trope. At first, they don't get along, butting heads and keeping their feelings hidden while maintaining a professional relationship.

But when Bridget's brother abdicates, placing her next in line for the throne, Bridget wants to live it up while she can. The story gets really interesting from that point, and it's awesome.

Rhys is the man! His banter and support for Bridget are great, and I guess you can't go wrong with a smutty romance with the name 'Rhys' for the male character. Plus, Twisted Games has some interesting political intrigue woven into the plot, which is surprising in a romance book. Sure, it could use more depth in some places, but overall I'm pleased with what I got.

I'm not feelin' the love for Bridget when it comes to her relationships. We don't know anything about her family - Rhys gets all the backstory, but not her. We know there's family drama because of the throne, but what kind of relationship does she have with her parents? Are they supportive, distant, or loving? We don't get much of a picture.

And then there is her friendships with the girls. It's like they just exist to get hooked up with hot men. We don't even get to learn anything about their friendship or how they connect with each other. It's a shame, really, because it could have added an extra layer to the story and given us a better understanding of Bridget.

Overall, I enjoyed Twisted Games for what it is. It promised a great time and delivered it perfectly. I liked it more than Twisted Love, the first book in the Twisted series. Rhys is a better male lead than Alex. I hated Alex in the first book. The sexual tension between Rhys and Bridget is simmering hot and that’s what keeps me reading romance books.

Favourite Quotes

“Men. They always ruined it by opening their mouths.”

“But someone once told me we always end up where we're meant to be, and this is where I'm meant to be. With you.”

“Bridget Von Ascheberg was mine and mine alone. It didn’t matter that she wasn’t mine to take. I was taking her anyway.”

“A small smile touched Rhys’s lips. “I always knew you would make a great queen.” “I’m not queen yet.” “You don’t need a crown to be queen, princess.”

“You were still mine.” I curled my hand around the back of her neck while keeping my thumb on her lip. “Mine to fight with. Mine to protect. Mine to fuck.” My voice dropped. “Mine to love.”

“I was a rule follower by nature. It was how I’d survived most of my life. But for Bridget, I would break every rule in the book.”

“How’s the book?” he drawled later, when he’d finished his workout and I’d grabbed the closest book I could find before he entered the living room. “Riveting.” I tried to focus on the page instead of the way Rhys’s sweat-dampened shirt clung to his torso. Six-pack abs for sure. Maybe even an eight-pack. Not that I was counting. “Sure seems that way.” Rhys’s face remained impassive, but I could hear the mocking bent in his voice. He walked to the bathroom, and without looking back, he added, “By the way, princess, the book is upside down.” I slammed the hardcover shut, my skin blazing with embarrassment.”

“Forget a skipped beat. My heart skipped a whole song. If my heart skipped any more songs, it'd have no playlist left.”

“I suggest you stop lookin’ at me like that, princess,” I said, my voice lethally soft. “Unless you plan on doing something about it.”

“I take care of what's mine, and you've been mine since the moment I saw you”

She can never be his...but he's taking her anyway.

Stoic, broody, and arrogant, elite bodyguard Rhys Larsen has two rules: 1) Protect his clients at all costs 2) Do not become emotionally involved. Ever.

He has never once been tempted to break those rules…until

her.

Bridget von Ascheberg. A princess with a stubborn streak that matches his own and a hidden fire that reduces his rules to ash. She’s nothing he expected and everything he never knew he needed.

Day by day, inch by inch, she breaks down his defenses until he’s faced with a truth he can no longer deny: he swore an oath to protect her, but all he wants is to ruin her. Take her.

Because she’s his.

His princess.

His forbidden fruit.

His every depraved fantasy.

Regal, strong-willed, and bound by the chains of duty, Princess Bridget dreams of the freedom to live and love as she chooses.

But when her brother abdicates, she’s suddenly faced with the prospect of a loveless, politically expedient marriage and a throne she never wanted.

And as she navigates the intricacies—and treacheries—of her new role, she must also hide her desire for a man she can’t have.

Her bodyguard.

Her protector.

Her ultimate ruin.

Unexpected and forbidden, theirs is a love that could destroy a kingdom…and doom them both.

Twisted Games is slow to medium-burn contemporary royal bodyguard romance. It’s book two of the Twisted series but can be read as a standalone.

Warning: This book contains a possessive alpha hero, explicit sexual content, and profanity.
