The book follows the story of Lyla, a young woman who was trafficked at a young age and has been forced to live in a world of violence and abuse. The Shadow Man is a mysterious figure who has been killing anyone who tries to hurt Lyla. When Lyla is set up to be the bait to lure the Shadow Man, she must find a way to survive and escape her past.
The plot is definitely darker than all the previous books in the series. I loved Lyla’s character a lot. She is really a strong woman that stays strong and overcomes the trauma that I found so difficult to read. The shadow man’s character is not my cup of tea whatsoever. I didn’t like him for the things he said and did which made me feel a bit weird.
But I don’t expect much from the genre anyway. I hope anyone reading this book doesn’t look for a relationship or a partner like that. It’s too toxic for a trauma survivor.
However, I didn’t hate ‘The Annihilator’ as much as ‘The Finisher’, the fourth book in the series. I rated the previous book zero stars. It was truly awful. The only reason I'm still reading this series is because I liked the third book and this one sounded more promising. I'm glad I gave it a chance because it's actually pretty good.
